As a part of the Animation and Visual Effects curriculum at Drexel University, every student must take painting classes to showcase skill in visual art. For this exercise, the instructor told the students to create a piece in monochrome, using one color. The goal was to have the students be able to create different materials and scenes without relying on colors. Although I have been painting since the ninth grade, this was an interesting challenge. The exercise forces the artist to pay attention to the reference in order to accurately portray the lights and shadows on each texture.
