Faces are filled with many intricate curves. The challenge for this exercise was to capture those curves without drawing the entire face. In this setting, the only parts visible on the face are those made by the key light. Drawing the lights and disregarding any part of the face that is not lit is the goal. What makes this type of drawing difficult is placement. Without usual face sketching techniques, it is hard to figure out proportions. However, if you only draw what you see, the picture becomes whole on its own.
